I found a little broadcast history in some old family mementos. This was a postcard that a great-aunt received in early 1953. It reads, “Hi! You can stop wondering, Mrs. Lawson. This is me – Ray Schreiner.”
A little research turned up some good information about Schreiner. He died just last year (2020) at age 98. Schreiner worked at radio stations in Virginia and North Carolina, and also around the world with Armed Forces Radio during World War II.
Schreiner came to WRNL in Richmond in 1950. He stayed there until moving WBCI in Williamsburg, Va., in 1962. In 1964, Schreiner became news director at Richmond’s WXEX-TV (today’s WRIC-TV). He then became director of information for the Virginia Department of Agriculture in 1965, where he hosted radio and television programs.
After his retirement in 1988, Schreiner served as a volunteer for the Virginia Historical Society. He also wrote a column for “Fifty Plus” magazine in Richmond from 1997 to 2011. Schreiner was very active in community theater in Danville, Williamsburg and Richmond.

WTFM in Lake Success, N.Y., is today’s WKTU-FM.
Hilda Sasson was a big WTFM fan in the 1960s, when it aired a beautiful music format. She recorded 4,000 hours of music over the years. Someone on YouTube is posting the audio here:
Hello, I happened upon your paragraph about the old LA classical radio station KFAC.I loved that station so much back in the day, and would love to hear clips from it again. I've done google searches to no avail. Stanford university apparently has a box of reel to reel tapes of the station, but no specifics about years, dates or content. Do you know anyone or source that might have some archived mp3's or digitized files ? I'd be willing to pay a reasonable amount to a collector of web site.
Anybody have any airchecks from KFAC in Los Angeles?
I did find this documentary about KFAC announcer Thomas Cassidy:
